Alberder Gillespie a native of Mississippi. In 2015 Alberder founded Black Woman Rising in her home with about thirty other black women. Black Women rising was formed in order for Black Women to stand strong and make a difference in the Minnesota political office. Supporting each other in making an impact thorough-out the state. In 2020 over 40 Black Women ran for office, that was supported by BWR.
Alberder has been involved with the Democratic–Farmer–Labor (DFL) party for more than 17 years. In which she was inducted into the DFL Women’s Hall of Fame. In 2016 she ran for Congress, representing Minnesota’s 4th Congressional District in order to represent women in political office in the Democratic party.
She has a strong passion for politics, which led her to run again 2020. Alberder has held many leadership position in the twin cities area, Former Member, School Board, South Washington County Schools, Former Chair, Senate District 53, Former Chair, Senate District 56 Former Director, Sixth Congressional District, Member, Presidential Advisory Board, University of Minnesota Board Member, South Washington Education Foundation Commissioner, Minnesota Amateur Sports Director, Fourth Congressional District.
